Dr. (Smt.) Tamilisai Soundararajan

Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Puducherry

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan assumed the charge as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry Union Territory on 18th February, 2021, bringing alone with her rich and varied experience to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

Born on June 2nd in 1961 at Nagarkoil in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has been actively involved in public service since her early days. Keenly observing the issues that concern people since her childhood, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan too got inculcated into the spirit of activism and service from early on. Before assuming Office of Governor of Telangana on 8th September 2019, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has put in two decades of dedicated and committed active life in social service and worked in close association with people from different walks of life.

She is known as a passionate leader with a lot of compassion towards the downtrodden, underprivileged sections, and the others in distress.

 

Owing to her unrelenting style of functioning and activism to highlight and resolve the issues that concern common people, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan came to be known as the firebrand leader with uncompromising attitude to serve the people.

Doctor by Profession: She began her career as a medical practitioner after completing MBBS and DGO. During her medical practitioner days, she was respected as the caring and service-oriented doctor by the people. Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has also undergone special training in Ultrasound and Foetal Therapy from the prestigious medical institution in Toronto (Canada). She has also worked as an Assistant Professor in Dept. of Gynaecology at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai, for seven years and later resigned to join the full-time politics in the year 2003.

Political entry to serve the Underprivileged: The strong reason for her political entry was her exposure to various incidents and plight of the poor people in peripheral, rural and remote areas in accessing quality education, healthcare facilities, and other services. As she nurtured great deal of devotion towards public service and enhancement of living standards of common people with special focus on health and education as her prime agenda, her political entry was imminent to serve the underprivileged.

As she was a leader from the early days of her medical education, when she served as the student leader at the Madras Medical College, she was destined to enter into public service life through her political entry.

Positions held in Political Career: Served as the student leader in the historic Madras Medical College, Chennai, worked as the South Chennai District Medical Wing Secretary (199-2001), served as the Medical Wing’s State General Secretary (2001 to 2004), Zonal In-Charge for three districts (2004 to 2005), All India Co-Convenor of the Medical Wing of the Southern States (2005 to 2007) and was also the State Spokesperson.

She was elevated as the State General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its State Spokesperson (2007 to 2010), Served as the Vice-President of the BJP, Tamil Nadu unit and the partys spokesperson (2010 to 2013), she worked as the National Secretary of the BJP at the national level (2013 to Aug 2014). Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan was deservingly elevated as the President of the BJP I s Tamil Nadu State Unit and led the party from August 2014 to till 1st September 2019. She led the party in an exemplary manner and pro-actively steered the partys State unit in the service of the people. She left an indelible mark of her own in her illustrious political career. Besides this, she has also served as the Director (independent charge) for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., till 1 st September 2019.

Author of books: Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan is as good a prolific writer, as an avid reader of a wide variety of books. She wrote academic books related to her medical profession as well as a couple of books on Hon l ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji and on a variety of subjects.

Powerful Orator, Debater, and Anchor: Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan proved her mettle as a forceful orator and as the powerful debater in television channels and gave many radio talks.

She became a household name in Tamil Nadu for her popular Television shows as anchor and conducted public speaking skills programmes in Tamil TV channels for more than a decade. Training hundreds of youngsters on public speaking. She excelled in translating the English speeches of the national leaders into Tamil when they visit Tamil Nadu.

Awards and Honour: Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has also served as the Vice President of the Tamil Literary Forum. She is a multi-talented and versatile personality with passion for excellence in whatever she does, winner of International Rising Star Award.
