Gender equality is a right and It feels proud to know that India is among few nations of the world which have ensured the right to vote for women since Independence. Women’s equality and empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but also integral to all dimensions of inclusive and sustainable development, so all the SDGs depend on the achievement of Goal 5. The case for change: Why gender inequality matters?

In recent years, many companies have been reforming their office culture and regulations to ensure that employees, especially women, are able to do their work more efficiently. Corporate India’s focus on recruiting and expanding their women employee base is laudable where companies have recognized the need for having women in the workforce and have diligently worked towards introducing best practices is truly remarkable. It has been noticed that this is not just at an entry level but across all levels, which is very encouraging for women employees in the company.

Whilst it is encouraging to note that many companies have introduced new policies to retain valuable women talent, this trend remains nascent in traditional services industry and there is a need for industries such as manufacturing and infrastructure to leverage the opportunity of an increase in employable women talent.
